Enrolment needed for flag vote
Maori electors are being urged to check their enrolment details so they can participate in the flag referendum.
Information on the postal vote will go out this week about the process, with the first referendum to be held between November 20 and December 11.
That’s when people will be asked to rank the five proposed designs in order of preference.
The most popular design will be put up against the existing flag in a second referendum in March.
Chief electoral officer Robert Peden says Maori participation rate in referendums has traditionally been low, and he’s keen to see people in a position to vote if they want to.
" Because this is a postal referendum, we 're going to be mailing your voting papers to you so it's even more important that you make sure that you're enrolment details are up to date. It's very easy to check. You can go onto our website elections dot org dot nz and you can check online. You can call our freephone number 0800367656 or if you want just pop into your local Post Shop" says
Robert Peden from the Electoral Commission.
