Tainui’s Ruakura build ready to start
Tainui Group Holdings has lodged resource consents for the first stage of a 480 hectare development at Ruakura on Hamilton’s eastern edge.
Chief executive Chris Joblin says it caps off years of planning, community consultation and last year’s board of inquiry.
He says 65 percent of New Zealand’s freight is transported between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga, and Ruakura sits at the apex of that triangle with access to both road and rail links.
The resource consents are for 78 hectares, including 48 hectares of freight and logistics facilities, with the balance being open space, site buffers and screening, stormwater reserves and roads.
Mr Joblin says a number of major companies have expressed interest in locating facilities in Ruakura, including several potential inland port operators.
