Rowdy scenes at Port Nicholson AGM
The Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust has fended off an attempt by supporters of disgraced former chair Sir Ngatata Love to dump the board of its Taranaki Whanui commercial arm.
Dr Love was jailed earlier this month for stealing $1.5 million from another tribal entity, the Wellington Tenths.
Family members and supporters turned out in force at the trust’s annual meeting in Wellington on Saturday and maintained a barrage of criticism of the current leadership, which reported the first profit since 2010.
Dr Love’s cousin, Palmerston North Reserves Trust chair Liz Mellish, unsuccessfully moved a motion to dump the commercial board, which was established last year to end a situation where the chairperson could make all major commercial decisions.
The trust has ruled out working with the Wellington Tenths and the Palmerston North Reserves trusts until they have been independently reviewed and any major transactions since 2006 are audited.
Trust chair Neville Baker says it’s time for people to be accountable, and the court has made a judgment against Dr Love on that basis.
