Hundertwasser gallery a step closer
Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis says getting the Hundertwasser Art Centre built in Whangarei will be a huge asset to the region.
The project has just secured $1.8 million from Foundation North, which means it now has 80 percent of the money needed to start building.
Mr Davis says while visitors will be drawn to see the work of the Austrian-born artist who made Northland his home for almost 30 years, the centre will also include the Wairau Gallery devoted to exhibiting contemporary Maori art
" It needs to have Maori kaupapa, Maori input, Maori plays because let's face it, Whangarei, Taitokerau is a very Maori area and we've got to be able to show the culture, the language the history of this area," says Kelvin Davis.
