Illustrator taught Maui to masses
Illustrator and author Peter Gossage, whose retellings of Maori folklore introduced many New Zealand children to Maui and other legendary figures, has died at his home in Pakiri.
He was 69.
Penguin Random House New Zealand, publishing director, Debra Millar, says her firm still has 10 of his books in print, and they are classics in New Zealand's children literature.
Mr Gossage married fellow artist Josephine Tilly Haddon of Ngati Wai and Ngati Ruanui, who died in May.
Their five children include artists Star and Aroha Gossage.
