Trade scholarships boost career hopes
More than 300 Maori and Pasifika youth have this week been formally handed the scholarships they need to start careers in the trades.
Kirk Sargent, the project manager for Maori and Pasifika Trade Training: Auckland, says the scholarships cover fees in courses at institutions like MIT, Unitec, Te Wananga o Aoteaoa or G&H Training.
The organisation will hand out just over 900 scholarships this year, on top of the 2400 from previous years, and it also offers counselling and pastoral care to help trainees stick with their studies.
