Honorary degree for Liam Messam
He’s a master of the scrum fringe, and now former All Black loose forward is to be acknowledged as a master of sport and exercise science.
The Ngai Tuhoe player will receive the honorary degree later this year from the Waikato Institute of Technology.
Wintec chair Mary Cave-Palmer says Messam, along with this year’s other recipients, has contributed greatly to the cultural, scientific or wellbeing aspects of many New Zealanders.
Degrees are also going to former Waikato Regional Diabetes Service clinical nurse manager Susie Ryan, Scientist Peter Robinson, and satirist Te Radar.
As well as his contribution to the the All Blacks, Chiefs and Sevens over the years, Messam has worked on numerous youth-orientated community initiatives.
