Ahurei back in Rotorua
Ngai Tuhoe will hold its biennial festival in Rotorua this Easter weekend.
Te Hui Ahurei o Tuhoe was started in the sulphur city by the late John Rangihau in 1971 to strengthen the identity of urban Tuhoe through sport and culture.
It soon shifted to the Tuhoe heartland of Waimana, Ruatahuna and Ruatoki, attracting up to 20,000 people over the three days.
Organising committee member Whitiaua Ropitini says Mataatua Marae invited hapu to bring the event back to Rotorua.
The festival will be at the Rotorua International Stadium from March 30 to April 1.
Mr Ropitini says the venue means more sports and activities can added to the programme with competitions across a wider range of age and skill levels.
