NZ On Air funds hit Māori sweet spot
A Māori whānau in Kaitaia competing with global giants to produce and market high quality mānuka honey will be the subject of a new reality television series to be funded under NZ On Air's Factual scheme.
Greenstone TV will get up to $400,000 for eight 22-minute episodes of Honey Wars, which will screen on Prime.
Greenstone TV along with Scottie Douglas productions with get $1.3 million to make Origins, three 44-minute primetime documentaries for TVNZ presented by Scotty Morrison which draws on oral histories and whakapapa, together with the latest scientific findings in anthropology, biology and linguistics, to unearth the definitive story of the origins of Māori.
Other programmes to be funded include political current affairs shows Newshub Nation, The Hui and Q + A, Grand Designs and The Nutters Club.
