Foodbank brings hope for Christmas cheer
There were queues this morning at Papakura Marae, Eden Park and Ngā Whare Waatea as whānau lined up for Christmas packages delivered by Auckland City Mission and its partners.
Manukau Urban Māori Authority whānau ora manager Veronica Henare says the turnout shows the face of Aotearoa in 2018.
She says people are struggling, but they want the best for their whānau.
"Here you are with a big smile on your face and you have come here today because simply you can't afford to either feed your tamariki or give your tamariki presents but you come here today and your are filled with hope and it fills me with hope but extremely humbling it has been," Ms Henare says.
Because of storage issues Ngā Whare Waatea's foodbank can only distribute 200 parcels a day for ten days.
