Indigenous business source of hope
There is a call for Māori to work with other first nations around the world to create a global indigenous economy.
Delegates from the United States, Canada and Australia have joined Māori in Rotorua this week for the ninth World Indigenous Business Forum.
Speaker Ella Henry from Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa says indigenous business is characterised by its connection to its community.
"The whole purpose of business is really to initiate change and improvement for indigenous peoples. It's not about profit for profit's sake. It's about generating jobs and businesses and hope," she says.
Dr Henry says no tribe, community or whānau can be said to be succeeding when so many whānau are still failing.
