Ngati Kahungunu to partner with Oranga Tamariki
Ngāti Kahungunu has become the ninth iwi to sign a strategic partnership with Oranga Tamariki.
Its aim is to keep tamariki with whānau and improve the health and wellbeing of Ngāti Kahungunu whānau, hapū and iwi.
Chair Ngahiwi Tomoana says the iwi is prepared to work with all government agencies on evolving kaupapa that support whānau development and whānau rangatiratanga over their own lives.
Chief executive Chrissie Hape says ensuring mokopuna and their whānau flourish will require significant change to policies, planning and service delivery not only within Oranga Tamariki but across central government.
The actions of Oranga Tamariki in Hawke's Bay come under intense scrutiny in 2019 after social workers and police attempted to uplift a baby from Hastings Hospital.
