Putea for predator busters
The Predator Free New Zealand Trust has been given $4.5 million from the Jobs for Nature to train up to 51 apprentices.
Conservation Minister Kiritapu Allan says the two-year apprenticeships will be with specialist pest control companies, eco-sanctuaries, and large landscape scale projects.
She says it’s an example of how the fund can help to protect nature, create nature-based jobs, and deliver a lasting conservation legacy in communities.
Trust general manager Jessi Morgan says New Zealand has the highest rate of threatened species in the world, and it’s critical to control and remove introduced predators including rats, possums, mustelids and feral cats so native species can thrive.
