Strike looms after pay parity talks fail
An 8-hour strike of more than primary health care workers is set to go ahead tomorrow after the failure of mediation.
Nurses and receptionist/administration staff across more than 500 general practices and accident/medical centres nationwide are seeking pay parity with their colleagues working in DHBs.
New Zealand Nurses Organisation industrial advisor Chris Wilson says the solution depends on more government funding for the employers.
The union has been informed there have been discussions in recent weeks at a government level, but nothing tangible has been forthcoming.
She says pay parity has been costed at $15 million.
