Win puts Benji Marshall in elite crew
Benji Marshall has become one of only three Māori head coaches to get a victory in NRL.
His club the West Tigers demolished the Cronulla Sharks 32 to 6 at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.
Commentator Ken Laban says while 70 percent of players in the National Rugby League are Indigenous, Māori, or Pasifika, they are under-represented in the coaching ranks – and he hopes Marshall’s success could change that.
“It would be good to see from an ownership, chief executive and from a head coach point of view for some of those positions and some of those bodies to be more reflective of what the game looks like from an ethnicity point of view,” he says
