Clock ticking on Reti health plans
Former associate health minister Peeni Henare says the clock is ticking on Health Minister Share Reti’s plans for Māori health.
Parliament last work passed legislation to wind down the Māori Health Authority, Te Aka Whai Ora.
Mr Henare says that was a whare built to address Waitangi Tribunal findings of deep seated and persistent failure in delivery of health services to Māori.
“If you’re going to disestablish, the Māori health authority, wind back on Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, then what is the plan? And if he criticised us for giving Te Aka Whai Ora only 18 months to get results, well you better start coming up with results pretty quickly himself,” he says.
