Minister Chhuor promises action on child poverty
It’s World Children’s Day on Sunday, and Children’s Minister Karen Chhour says it’s a chance to celebrate the achievements and potential of all children.
She says it’s also a chance to take a stocktake on child poverty and what needs to be done about it.
“I know what it’s like to be a young person, that when you open the cupboards, there’s no food. I mean, it’s really hard to describe what that feels like. There’s no words that can express what that feels like. The pain of hunger and not knowing where your next meal comes from. We can’t tolerate their daily more. We need to make sure that we are focusing in that space,” she says.
Minister Chhour says the experience of the past few years has shown it’s not about the amount that is spent but the quality of that spend, and what organisations can do it better than government.
