Benefit cuts attack on mana Māori
An advocate for Māori and disabled says changes in the benefits law are an attack on the dignity of beneficiaries.
The new Government is going back to pegging benefit increases to inflation rather than wage growth, which means lower future increases, and it is also cutting the minimum family tax credit.
Hūhana Hickey says National is embracing ACT policy and attacking the poor under the guise of individual responsibilty.
“Individualism never works. We are community, we’re a collective people and as we’re all coming together and fighting for Te Tiriti, we also need to come together and fight against these injustices,” Dr Hickey says.
She says the changes are another attack on Māori, who make up 36 percent of beneficiaries,
