New protest generation makes its move
A member of protest group Toitū te Tiriti says the next generation showed at Waitangi it is ready to challenge the Government.
Eru Kapa-Kingi says this year’s Waitangi Day celebrations at Waitangi were the biggest he’s seen.
He says they’re building on the legacy of past protest movements.
“But really, we’re doing justice to the mahi of the old guard and evolving this kaupapa, and evolving again because if we do what we’ve always done, we’ll get what we’ve always got. This isn’t to be disparaging of past efforts, these are all the foundation and the platforms upon which my generation stands, but we’re here to really shake things up,” Mr Kapa-Kingi says.
He says his reanga showed their aspiration to regain political power in Aotearoa
