Government of the undone says Tangaere-Manuel
Ikaroa Rawhiti MP Cushla Tangaere-Manuel says the new coalition Government has taken aim at Māori, low wage workers, and the most vulnerable in the country.
The Government has repealed Labour’s Fair Pay Act, its clean car discount and the Taxation Principles Reporting Act, axed the Lake Onslow pumped hydro scheme and the Let’s Get Wellington Moving initiative, and started the removal of smokefree laws and the National Policy Statement on Freshwater -with more to come in tomorrow’s mini-budget.
Ms Tangaere-Manuel says it also seems determined to scrap as much Māori content from the government bureaucracy, and legislation as possible. “They say they’re the government of getting things done. So far they’re the government of getting things undone, for te iwi Māori. But to be playing with peoples’ lives like this – it’s beyond belief,” she says.
