Kelvin Davis sets February 6 exit date
Labour Party MP Kelvin Davis is quitting politics.
The former Kaitaia Intermediate School principal entered parliament as a list MP in 2008, winning Te Taitokerau in 2014 and losing it this year to Te Pati Maori’s Mariameno Kapa-Kingi.
He says now Labour is no longer in Government, it’s time to move on to other opportunities.
Under Labour huge progress was made in making the Government a better treaty partner, and while that’s under threat with the new Government, he leaves knowing a strong Labour team will hold the coalition to account.
Mr Davis will finish as an MP on Waitangi Day and head for Australia, where he has a job lined up in Indigenous relations.
