Tuiono first Green assistant speaker
Green Party MP Teanau Tuiono has made history by being named the party’s first ever parliamentary assistant speaker.
He joins National’s Barbara Kuriger and Maureen Pugh as well as Labour’s Greg O’Connor in helping speaker Gerry Brownlee
He was nominated by the leader of the House, National’s Chris Bishop.
“Mr Tuiono has been a member of parliament for the last three years. He has served with distinction as a member of the Green Party in a number of portfolios and I think this is the first time the Greens will have an assistant speaker in parliament so it’s a noteworthy occasion,” Mr Bishop said.
