Cost of living crisis but not for MP’s
Inspite of the country’s cost of living crisis……Members of Parliament have been awarded a 10.5% pay increase over three years from the Remuneration Authority – the organisation responsible for setting MP’s pay scales.
ACT Party Leader David Seymour says the pay increases come at a very bad time and won’t sit well with New Zealanders doing it tough.
Backbench MP pay rises from $163, 961 to $168,600, it increases again in 2025 to $177.600.
The Prime Minister’s salary will rise to $498,300 from $484,200, in 2025 it increases again to $510,300.
The deputy prime minister’s salary is currently $ $344,100 it rises to $354,100 and $362,600 in 2025.
Although the Remuneration Authority sets the pay for these roles, Parliament can pass legislation to overrule it. If it passes unopposed the increases come into effect 01 June 2024.
