Self-care critical as Covid wave comes again
The chief medical officer of health for Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau says wastewater testing confirms the country is experiencing a fifth wave of Covid-19.
There were just over 6800 new cases reported last week.
While that was a drop from the week before, Andrew Connolly says those case numbers don’t align with wastewater testing.
He says people should take a rapid antigen test if they show symptoms, and if it’s positive they need to isolate for five days.
“As long as you’re feeling fine, or much better at the end of that five days, you can go about your normal days again, and it’s important to know you do not need to return a negative RAT test. So we know that the tests can remain positive for quite a long time but you’re no longer actively infected or passing it on,” Dr Connolly says.
