Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says New Zealand First’s deputy leader should be ashamed of his support for a Coromandel mining project.
An anti-mining groups has taken a judicial review of a Hauraki Regional Council subterfuge aimed at giving OceaniaGold access to a paper road through the pristine Wharekirauponga forest to build mining vents.
Ms Davidson that’s at odds with indigenous sentiment around the world which takes a longer term view of environmental protection, and his argument he’s thinking about jobs for young people doesn’t wash.
“I see what he’s been saying – if we can’t mine, we’re not going to be able to help young people with the financial worries and the equity issues they’ve been campaigning on. Aue. fancy trying to put that on young people when we have wealth in this country that Shane is not wanting to tap into and recognise in the form of a wealth tax, capital gains tax,” Ms Davidson sys.
