Voice vote veto, reveals harsh truth
Australians have voted 60-40 against giving their Indigenous people a voice in parliament.
ABC journalist Karina Hogan says the referendum process and the well-funded No campaign has been tough for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, as White Australians let them know how they truly feel.
“This to me is confirmation we live in a country that is incredibly racist, one that has worked really hard to try and gaslight us as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people as the rightful owners of this land. Now that we know and we can definitively say ‘you guys have really put yourselves on display here,’ I think moving from a place of truth is probably the most important way to move forward for us as Aboriginal and Torre Strait Island people,” she says.
Ms Hogan says 86 percent of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people voted yes.
