Kapa-Kingi goes online to lure voters
Pāti Māori candidate Eru Kapa-Kingi is campaigning on Instagram in an effort to draw out first time voters.
Mr Kingi, whose work as a professional teaching fellow involves designing courses on te ao Māori me ōna tikanga, has been creating content on the party’s policies, co-governance, parliament and how coalitions work.
He says being told to vote has never resonated with his whanaunga.
“I’m trying to sort of draw a line or a connection between the stuff that I’ve learned through formal education and experience, trying to break that down, and provide like a simple explanation for whānau to empower themselves to make a decision to go out and vote,” he says.
Eru Kapa-Kingi is ranked 9th on the Māori Party list, two behind his mother Mariameno Kapa Kinging, the party’s Te Taitokerau candidate.
