Time to make Māori voice heard says Davis

Labour Party deputy leader Kelvin Davis says Māoridom needs to exercise its voice this election.
He says ACT has made a referendum on the Treaty of Waitangi a bottom-line in joining a Government with National – which amounts to an agenda to get rid of Te Tiriti.
Removing treaty references from legislation references would mean Māori are like any other stakeholder in the community, and future Governments would feel no obligation to address Māori issues or partner with Māori on solutions.
“Our people feel their vote is powerless. Now if every Maori voter, maybe half a million are able to vote, that is a huge voice, that is a big block. We can protect te Tiriti o Waitangi if they all get our and party vote for parries that have pledged to protect te Tiriti o Waitangi,” Mr Davis says.
