Tui Ora steps up Womad role
WOMAD has formed a new partnership with kaupapa Māori organisation Tui Ora which will weave Māoritanga deeper into the fabric of the festival.
Tui Ora chief executive Alana Ruakere says as well as giving giving WOMAD audiences the opportunity to connect more meaningfully with Te Ao Māori, the partnership will make the popular festival accessible to more Taranaki whānau.
She says World of Music and Dance festival is all about the beauty and value of diverse cultures and lived experiences, which is an empowering perspective for the whānau Tui Ora works with to see.
The 2024 festival will mark 17 years of WOMAD partnering with Tui Ora, and it now takes over the event partner slot previously held by Todd Energy.
The festival next March will feature reggae icon Ziggy Marley, with other headliners to be announced in October.
