High flyer to advise of work commission
A high-flying Maori expatriate has been appointed to the external reference group for Labour's Future of Work Commission.
Matthew Tukaki from Ngai Te Rangi is a former head of employment firm Drake Austrasia, and now heads entrepreneurship network EntreHub and Sustain Group, which advises organisations around the world on sustainable development.
He has also served on a United Nations advisory group on sustainable development.
Other members include Auckland Chamber of Commerce Michael Barnett, Council of Trade Unions president Helen Kelly, software firm Xero managing director Victoria Crone, academics Tim Bentley and Sue Ryall, Competenz ITO chief executive John Blakey and Linc Gasking, the founder of virtual reality start-up 8i.
Labour’s Finance spokesperson Grant Robertson says the commission cast a wide net to get people who will challenge it, and their involvement should not be construed as indicating any political preference by them or their organisation.
The group will meet on a monthly basis, using video and teleconferencing.
The Future of Work Commission will focus on technology, security of work and income, education and training, Maori and Pasifika, and economic development and sustainability.
It is drafting discussion papers for each stream that will be part of a nationwide consultation process beginning in May.
