Vote split best option says Tamihere

Māori Party president John Tamihere is urging Māori to vote for their Māori Party candidate and give their party vote to Labour.
He says in past elections Maori have voted strategically, and he expects they’ll do so again in October.
“They’ve got a practised model. They’re not stupid people. So they will know this election if you want to ensure National and ACT don’t get up given what they’ve been saying about us and what they’re going to do to us, you vote the constituency vote the Maori Party and you give the party vote to Labour'” Mr Tamihere says.
He’s picking there will be seven Maori seats by the time of the 2026 election, which could change the political calculus.
