Organics the way for Māori farmers says Green MP
Green MP Teanau Tuiono says there are huge opportunities for Māori in the agricultural and horticulture industries – especially in organics and low emission sectors.
It’s Fieldays week, when the nation’s farmers head for Mystery Creek in Waikato to see the latest in cutting edge technology and innovation.
Mr Tuiono says with awareness of climate change growing, consumers around the world are looking to support ethical producers.
“There’s a lot of opportunity there as well, but I would say, let’s try to work with the whenua, let’s try to make all the right decisions, which have a generational impact you know? We’re thinking about our tamariki, and we’re thinking about our mokopuna,” he says .
Teanau Tuiono says many Maori businesses already plan across multiple generations.
