Campaign for diabetes service
A campaign has been launched to stop the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board axing its diabetes service.
Andy Lowe from Lowe Corporation, whose staff have benefited from the (General Practitioner Special Interest) Diabetes Service, says it has resulted in outstanding clinical outcomes for patients including closing the inequality gap for Maori with diabetes.
He says the Putting Patients First campaign has heard from patients how the service has been life changing.
The service cost the DHB just $150,000 a year and covered about 100 patients from Wairoa to Central Hawke’s Bay.
Mr Lowe says he has offered to pay for an independent review of the DHB’s costs and outcomes compared with those of the service.
