Long term view in Prime reward

Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis says Māori environmentalist Kevin Prime deserves every accolade he gets.
The Ngati Hine kaumatua was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the King’s Birthday Honours List for more than half a century of service to Māori, the environment and health.
Mr Davis remembers him coming out to Karetu School in the mid-90s and talking about an area at Motatau which had been closed off to allow the kukupa or wood pigeon to flourish.
“That was three decades ago and it was incredible what they had done so I would love to see how those kukupa have flourished in that time. The work he has been doing in terms of conservation, he’s been on a number of boards, he’s just such a wonderful, humble man and he just deserves every accolade he gets,” Mr Davis says.
