Whānau Matters plan to save Warriors
Veteran entertainer Pio Terei says a series of short videos on topics like grief, adolescent behaviour and teenage pregnancy is proving to be an effective way to normalise serious conversations within Māori households.
Whānau Matters was launched this week by Kōwhai Productions supported by E Tū Whanau and the Māori Media Network.
Pio Terei told the launch whānau Māori react positively when content is delivered in a humorous and relatable way.
“Everything we do in this arena of sharing korero – not telling, no blame, no shame, sharing korero – is making sure it’s done in a safe space so our people can actually digest it but I reckon if we get our whare right and our street right and our suburbs right and get the Warriors right, we’ll be saved,” he says.
New episodes of Whānau Matters will be released each week on E Tū Whānau’s Instagram and Facebook page, and on Māori Radio Stations throughout Aotearoa.
