FTA start sweet news for Māori exporters
Associate Trade Minister Rino Tiritakene says provisions for Māori in the Free Trade Agreement with the United Kingdom are the first of their kind in the world.
When the agreement comes into force at the end of the month almost all of goods exported to the UK will be tariff free.
That means more profit for export companies and Māori businesses.
“Just looking at our Māori exporters, our manuka honey, our wine, horticultural products, all of those will have no tariffs from day one. In the longer term, over the next 15 years, we will be able to have no tariffs, they will be gradually eliminated, over the big ticket items of dairy, beef sheep and lamb,” Mr Tirikatene says.
