Kerekere departure leaves work still to do
Greens’ co-leader Marama Davidson says Elizabeth Kerekere’s resignation from the party has been hard to take.
The Gisborne-based list MP quit on Friday to sit as an independent, bringing to an end an investigation into disparaging comments she made on a group chat about colleagues.
Ms Davidson says she wishes Dr Kerekere’s whānau and community well, but the work must continue.
“We know our people are more concerned about what our solutions are for helping people live good lives and protecting our taiao than about our internal workings in the party so haere tonu te mahi,” she says.
Meanwhile, former Green list MP Elizabeth Kerekere has told Te Ao Māori News her voice was suppressed within the party because of her promotion of Māori and rainbow issues.
She said there is definitely a racism problem in the Greens, and a lot of supporters are going to be disappointed after all the work she has done to help restructure the party and focus on how it gives light to the Treaty.
