Dawn raids decision made on Mars
A lawyer who fought the dawn raids of the 1970s says it’s outrageous Immigration New Zealand is continuing a practice the Government formally apologised for just two years ago.
A Pasifika construction worker was removed from his home by police and immigration officials last month as his four children watched on.
Polynesian Panthers founding member Fuimaono Tuiasau says he was on the stage at the Auckland Town Hall when then-Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio gave one of the most elegant apologies he has ever heard.
Now the community is again being made to live in fear.
“Someone should be held to account. This is just a total outrage. It’s like whoever is involved in this operation, either they’ve just landed from Mars or they don’t care,” Mr Tuiasau says.
He says the incident goes against efforts to have the dawn raids included in the new history curriculum
