Motu wins super bantamweight title
Te Rarawa boxer Mea Motu has claimed a world title with a convincing win over Canadian Tania Walters at the Fight For Life event in Auckland last night.
She took the IBO super bantamweight title, with judges scoring the 10-round fight 98-92, 99-91, and 96-94.
It was the first time in the charity event that women had headlined the card, with the money raised going to Mike King’s youth mental health charity, I Am Hope.
After the bout the mother of five thanked her family, trainer Isaac Peach and her fans.
She credited boxing and her coaches with saving her life after her mental health had been pummelled by 10 years with a violent former partner.
She’s now setting her sights on the other world belts.
