The Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Tai kaiwaiata says for E Rere Ra, her third Goldsmith-Baynes album with pianist and long time collaborator Mark Baynes, she adopted a kaupapa Maori methodology for composing the title track.
“The band wasn’t given any music. We came in with the kupu and in a live setting we kind of created the music then and there with the rest of the band,” she says.
E Rere Ra also features drummer Stephen Thomas, Wil Goodinson on double bass and Riki Bennett on taonga puoro.
