Political courage needed to tackle climate

Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says the party won’t compromise on climate change as it tries to influence the direction of the next government.
The party’s election year state of the planet message delivered on Sunday has been bolstered by the release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change synthesis report which says huge changes were needed to stave off the worst climate predictions.
It also comes after Prime Minister Chris Hipkins parked up various climate change initiatives so his Government can concentrate of cyclone recovery and cost of living issues.
Ms Davidson says it’s not good enough.
“There’s not enough urgency. We actually have the tools and what we need. We’ve got the brains and the matauranga. We can actually shift to a way of living that nourishes our planet instead of depletes her and reduces our climate pollution. What is missing is the political courage,” she says.
