Heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings
Meteorologist Stephen Glassey says it’s better to be safe than sorry when responding to weather warnings.
The Met Service has issued orange heavy rain warnings for Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay.
Coromandel Peninsula and Auckland, Great Barrier Island and Coromandel have been told to watch for severe thunderstorms which could produce downpours of 25 to 40 millimetres and hour through to tonight, which could cause surface and/or flash flooding.
“There was a front that came north over the South Island and it has become slow-moving over the North Island. It does start to move back southwards again tomorrow so things look to imoorve ofr a lots of areas tomorrow. The warning for Hawke’s Bay goes through to 10am but other areas further north will probably ease earlier than that,” Mr Glassey says.
