Moving land keeps people from Auckland west coast

With more heavy rain forecast for areas affected by Cyclone Gabrielle, the call is coming for people to take care and to listen to the warnings.
Herewini Te Koha, Auckland Council’s Maori outcomes manager, says people need to stay away from west coach beach settlements where work is going on to fix roads and stabilise land.
“The roads are closed for good reason and we are trying to make sure people don’t take it into their into their own hands to try to return to properties. We know the desire is really strong to go hack and get personal effects or check on properties but we are trying to make sure people stay safe, literally keep them alive and well while the weather is doing its thing,” he says.
More than 570 Auckland homes have been red-stickered.
