Maori Tourism takes stock after storm
Māori Tourism chair Dale Stephens say Cyclone Gabrielle could have a major effect on the tourism sector just as it is starting to recover from Covid.
Maori Tourism spoke to about 150 businesses on Friday about the impending storm and where they could go for help if needed,
He says the risk now is that forward bookings will be cancelled.
“Let’s hope our people are safe. Let’s hope they can recover as soon as possible and we don’t lose too many forward bookings, because certainly tourism is starting to pick up big time and that’s great for our economy,” Mr Stephens says.
He says New Zealand needs to be able to assure visitors they will be safe.
