Extra pūtea for storm responders
The Government has announced an $11.5 million Community Support Package to help people affected by the recent floods, and whatever Cyclone Gabrielle throws at them.
Social Development Minister Carmel Sepuloni says community organisations, groups and iwi have mobilised quickly to support people and whānau who have been impacted and displaced.
Demand was exceeding the funding available.
The package will provide immediate relief for individuals and families, bespoke support for disabled people like transport assistance, as well as support for the voluntary sector.
Ms Sepuloni says the community connectors who were set up as part of the welfare response to Covid-19 have been deployed to support the disaster relief in Auckland and other affected regions.
