MUMA takes lead in community safety plan
Manukau Urban Māori Authority wants to bring together marae leaders, Māori, Pasifika and ethnic wardens, police and the Indian business community to keep South Auckland safe over the Christmas holiday period.
Kaiwhakaharere matua-chief executive Tania Rangiheuea says there is widespread concern in the community about youth offending and ram raids.
She says Indian leaders are mobilising their people, and it makes sense they team up with existing community patrols and police.
She’s called a hui of community groups and leaders at Nga Whare Waatea Marae tomorrow morning to discuss how they
can work alongside one another, and how they can respond to any significant incident that arises during the holiday season.
“A key issue that will be discussed is how we keep our community safe from violence and other serious incidents,” Ms Rangiheuea says.
