Kahungunu Whanau Services leaps into community housing

Kahungunu Whānau Services has bought 19 townhouses in Taita, Lower Hutt, to be managed as public housing.
Associate Housing Minister Peeni Henare says its asset holding company Tātai Mokopuna Holdings was granted $7.1 million from the government’s Te Kahui Māori housing programme, which is part of the $730 million investment into Maori housing in Budget 2021.
The funding will also enable it to work towards establishing a community housing provider to manage public homes under the income related rents scheme.
Kahungunu Whānau Services has been providing a range of housing support and other services for 50 years.
