Peter Paka Paratene wraps aroha around great career
The curtain is falling on the career of a great actor – and his proud daughter says it’s not to be missed.
Rawiri Paratene is reprising his show Peter Paka Paratene at the new Te Pou Tokomanawa theatre at Henderson’ Corban Estate.
He shares his poetry, songs and favourite classical works and shares stories from the three distinct phases of his life, growing up in Hokianga, shifting to South Auckland and activism with Ngā Tamatoa, and his long stage and screen career.
Marama Davidson says despite three strokes which have reduced his once formidable powers of speech, he still commands an emotional response from an audience
"Exactly what I'm hearing from people is a lot of love for being able to be a part of his swansong and it's been lovely hearing people appreciating a lovely night, an intimate night, and a lovely look, even though it's about dad, he of course travelled through different periods, political and social times of our country," she says.
Peter Paka Paratene runs until May 24.
