Face mask reminder as Covid picks up steam
The Ministry of Health is confident it has the right measures are in place to manage rising Covid cases.
In the past week alone there were 27,000 new cases and 60 deaths.
Health deputy director Maori John Whaanga says this wasn’t unexpected, and increased access to vaccines and anti-viral medicines is helping to manage it.
He says as the country moves into the holiday season, people need to remember how to keep their whanau and themselves safe.
“I know people sometimes get hoha with wearing face masks but they help reduce the spread and they help prevent you from catching, Taht’s why we continue to have facemasks worn in health settings, because we have vulnerable people trying to access health services and it is really important we try to protect them,” Mr Whaanga says.
Maori should take the opportunity to get the second booster if they are over 40.
