More fog cannons as dairies in fear

The Government has announced more measures to combat retail crime.
They come after the funeral of Sandringham dairy worker Janak Patek, who was stabbed to death after following an alleged robber out into the street.
Three people have been arrested, and a 36 year old man who was recently deported from Australia has been charged with murder.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says all small shops and dairies who want a fog cannon installed can get $4000 to get one from an authorised supplier.
“We’ve rolled out 1000 of these already in stores. We’ve also put in place a specific programme to not just put in place fog cannons but other preventative measures for businesses. What we are doing today is vastly expanding who can access that,” she says.
Councils in vulnerable areas will also receive additional matching funding for crime prevention measures such as street lighting and CCTV cameras, including $2 million for Auckland Council, $1 million for Hamilton Council and $1 million for councils in the Bay of Plenty.
